Day 1: DEPARTURE CITY - ISTANBUL

Overnight flight to Istanbul.
 

Day 2: ISTANBUL

Upon arrival at Istanbul airport we transfer to our centrally located Hotel. Due to the long and tiring Transatlantic flight, spend the rest of the day to rest. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 3: ISTANBUL

Breakfast. Your day begins with a guided tour exploring one the most famous churches of the Byzantine Empire, the Chora Church, with magnificent mosaics depicting the Biblical scenes in a chronological order. Then continue on your ancient city tour with highlights including the magnificent Topkapi Palace. Afterwards you will walk across the Byzantine Hippodrome that was the scene of chariot races. In the afternoon you will visit Haghia Sophia Basilica, the historic seat of the Byzantine church, built in 537 AD. It is now a museum whose mosaics, stained glass windows and decorated domes have been crafted to create an environment of breathtaking beauty. A short walk through the gardens takes us to the Blue Mosque of Sultan Ahmet I, built in 1616, that is famous for unequalled ceramic tiles. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 4: ISTANBUL - ADANA - ANTIOCH - ADANA

Breakfast. A short morning flight to Adana begins a full day tour taking you past hilltop Crusader castles and the port of Alexandretta (now called Iskenderun) to Antakya, site of ancient Antioch. (Acts 6:5; 11:19-30; 13:1-3; 15:1-2 & 22-35) At Antioch you will visit the cave church where St. Peter led worship, sponsoring the church of Paul and Barnabas' missionary journeys. You will also see a world-class museum of Roman mosaics and nearby (renovation permitting) ruins before returning to Adana. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 5: ADANA - TARSUS - CILLICIAN GATES - CAPPADOCIA

Breakfast. Begin the day visiting the birthplace of St. Paul, Tarsus (Acts 9:11,30; 11:25; 21:39; 22:3.) where you may drink from his well. Drive through the beautiful Taurus Mountains to the Anatolian Plateau. Continue to Biblical Cappadocia, famous for unique landscapes, underground cities as well as towns carved from the region's soft volcanic rock. En route we visit to the 13th century Seljuk Caravan Inn of Agzikarahan. Evening arrival in Cappadocia  Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 6: CAPPADOCIA

After breakfast you will embark on your full day touring the "moon-like" topography and unique landscape of Cappadocia. Goreme, the open-air museum with its chapels carved by the early Christians and decorated with frescoes dating from the 6th and 10th century is an unforgettable experience. Visit the underground city of Derinkuyu or Kaymakli where thousands of early Christians lived concealed from persecutors in eight story complexes of subterranean dwellings. Visit the pottery making village of Avanos and the Byzantine monastic complex of Zelve before returning to your hotel to enjoy the picturesque views of this ancient and historic land. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 7: CAPPADOCIA - KONYA

Breakfast. Enjoy a morning drive across the rolling stepped plateau. En route we stop by the 13th century Selchuk Caravan Inn. Midday arrival at Konya (Iconium of the Bible) to visit the Mausoleum of Mevlana ,(an unusual and ecstatic Muslim sect,) then continue to another biblical town of Asia minor to see the Lystra nearby. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 8: KONYA - PSIDIA - LAODICEA - PAMUKKALE

Breakfast. Today your will drive through the countryside approaching the Taurus mountains; on the way you will visit Pisidian Antioch where St. Paul passed in his first journey, Departure to Laodicea, to gain an understanding of the "neither hot nor cold" water (Rev. 3:14-22; Col.2:1; 4:13-16) one of the seven churches of Asia Minor in the book of revelation. Next you will continue on to Pamukkale. You will also visit the Greco-Roman settlement, Hierapolis, one of the most popular spa towns of Roman times. This was Philip the Evangelist's home. We tour the extensive ruins of the city.  Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 9: PAMUKKALE - PHILADELPHIA - SARDIS - KUSADASI

Breakfast. This morning you will drive to and visit Philadelphia, (Rev. 3:7-13) referred to as the New Jerusalem. You will continue to Sardis, site of another of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor where you will visit a Roman era Synagogue and well preserved gymnasium. Early evening arrival in Kusadasi. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 10: KUSADASI - EPHESUS - MILETUS - KUSADASI

Breakfast. This morning's first drive will be to Miletus where St. Paul called the elderly Ephesians to the theatre to give one of his most influential sermons. Next drive crossing fertile valleys to Ephesus, the home of St. Paul between 54 and 57 AD, to explore an unforgettable expanse of Greco-Roman and Christian remains (Ephesians: Rev 1:11; 2:1-7; Acts 18:19-28; 19:1-4.) Tour the nearby Virgin Mary's cottage on a wooded hilltop. Finally we stop at the restoration of St. John's Basilica, where he was first buried. In the afternoon you will continue to Izmir, (Smyrna, Rev 2:8-11) Homer's birthplace on the Aegean Coast. Late afternoon return to Kusadasi. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 11: KUSADASI - PERGAMUN - TROY - CANAKKALE

Breakfast. In the morning you will drive north to Akhisar, ( Thyatira ) mentioned in the book of Revelation by St. John, and see the ruins of the early Christian basilica, a colonnaded road and a large church. Then continue onto the acropolis of ancient Pergamum. Afternoon visit to Alexandria Troas, another important location to where St. Paul walked from Ephesus. Continuing north you will tour the legendary walls, buildings and a replica of the famous wooden horse at Troy where Greek and Trojan heroes fought for the honour of Helen. Early evening arrival in Canakkale. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 12: CANAKKALE

After breakfast enjoy a guided  tour of Canakkale. Start with a visit to the Cimenlik Castle then continue to the Turkish districts of Camii Kebir and Çay with a stop at the Fatih Mosque. We then walk through the Jewish district, Victory Square,  Muriel Bazaar, Cumhuriyet Meydaný (Republican Square) and the Public Gardens (Halk Bahcesi). In the afternoon join your Tour Director for a walk along the waterfront. Free time. Dinner and Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 13: CANAKKALE - MARMARA - NICEA - ISTANBUL

After breakfast you will drive through the fertile valleys of Marmara and next drive along the sea of Marmara to Bursa and Nicea to see the St Sophia Cathedral where the 1st and 2nd Ecumenical councils were held. Afternoon arrival in Istanbul, just in time for a taste of Turkish night life. Enjoy a peaceful farewell dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight at the Hotel.

 

Day 14: DEPARTURE

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
